The RIO CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU - RC&VB - is a private
non-profit Foundation located in Rio de Janeiro. It was founded by the
initiative of public institutions (Embratur, TurisRio, Riotur,
Riocentro) and private companies (Chamber of Commerce, Banks, Hotels,
Travel Agencies, Airlines - Varig, Ground Transportation, Congress
Organizers, Communication Media, etc.). These companies linked to the
travel and tourism sector are the supporting members of the RC&VB.
The creation of the RC&VB followed a world trend established at
that time in most of the big cities, particularly in the USA and
Europe, where these specialized offices promoted in a professional way
their tourist destinations with the objective of attracting congresses
and events mainly to the low season.
Thus on February 28th, 1984 a group of business
leaders gathered at the Chamber of Commerce offices
and founded the Fundação Rio Congressos
e Eventos - Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Foundation’s basic and permanent objective is to stimulate
and increase the tourist flow and also attract the holding of national
and international congresses and events to the city. It operates as a
supporting organization helping promoters, associations, companies and
corporations interested in holding their events in Rio de Janeiro as
well as assist tourist who wish to visit the city.
To accomplish its objectives the RC&VB participates
regularly in national and international trade shows
(travel business and parallel exhibitions) with
its own stand, or sharingwith other organizations.
It also promotes seminars, meetings and educational
conferences addressed to tour operators, travel
agencies, and foreign pres,s presenting Rio de Janeiro
as an ideal destination to hold any type of event.
These activities are developed with our own promotional
material (videos, brochures, Showcase magazine)
that promotes Rio de Janeiro’s infrastructure
and introduces our corporate members that offer
the best tourist services in town.
